Performance The things I do are a mixture of Circus, Story and Slapstick and it’s appropriate for all ages—adults and children. I can blend into or take over church services. School assemblies are usually an hour unless you want them shorter. Shows are usually longer than that, prison shows a bit shorter. I would rather not have an interval—have refreshments at the end instead! Venue I need a ‘performance space’ that is 20’ wide, 10’ deep and with a 12’ height clearance. Of course if it’s bigger so much the better, but I’m severely limited in a portacabin! In Churches, as long as the aisle or even the crossing at the back are wider than 6’ then that’s fine. Children are best on chairs/ pews and not necessarily en bloc. I don’t have my own microphones etc, so if you have a radio neck/lapel-mike that’s the ideal, though only if the building needs amplification. Microphones on cables or stands aren’t much use. If the event is outdoors a microphone is more preferable, if not essential, and it helps if the ground is level! If it’s wet underfoot, I’m severely restricted—a wet weather plan is advisable. I can’t walk on rope or my rolling globe with wet boots. I need a room to change in. It doesn’t have to have a mirror or water but it is nice if it’s comfortable and larger that a shoe-box! It also shouldn’t be a thoroughfare or a very busy toilet! An un-busy toilet isn’t too bad! The vestry is fine! A table near the entrance for my books and DVD’s is helpful and it there’s someone spare to keep an eye on it, so much the better….. I normally arrive an hour before the start. If there is someone to help unload as well as let me in, I’d be grateful, especially if it’s a circus skills workshop. You’d be surprised how many people view loading and unloading as a spectator sport….. I bring all the props and equipment I need apart from arts and crafts materials if it’s a workshop activity. Helpers for children's’ workshops are essential—the legal rule is one adult for every ten children. Publicity I have some bits of artwork etc with which you can make posters, flyers, invites or whatever, as well as a photograph if required. I’m happy to be interviewed, have my picture taken etc but only at times that don’t interfere with the services/ show or with my preparation. Local press who appear five minutes before the start expecting the earth will be shot! Anyone can take pictures during the event as long as they are discreet— the same rule applies for videos and TV. I’m happy for people to use a recording if it’s not then used for any commercial gain or public showing.

“I will remember your story telling as some of the best I’ve ever heard, your slack rope as one of the funniest experiences I’ve ever had, and your prayers with the bubbles as the only intercessions I’ve heard that people have enthused about afterwards.” |
